How your donations can drive diagnoses
You may have already donated to Kid S.M.A.R.T. or maybe you’re thinking about it but have some questions about what happens next. Here's the process for how your donations actually result in life-changing answers for kids and their families:
-
Under-resourced families with kids who have experienced acute or chronic medical or neurologic conditions impacting brain and psychological development apply for a scholarship through our website. They may be referred to Kid S.M.A.R.T. by a parent, pediatrician, specialty provider (e.g., neurologist), or a school provider.
-
Members of the Scholarship Committee review the applications and discuss the recommended services and monetary amount needed to provide those services for each applicant.
-
Members of the full board of directors vote on the scholarship applicants and the specific amount allocated to each applicant at the next quarterly board meeting.
-
Scholarship recipients are provided with a list of qualified providers who have been vetted by the Kid S.M.A.R.T. team to provide specialty mental healthcare services.
-
The parents/guardians of scholarship recipients schedule appointments with providers to discover answers about their child's unique thinking, learning, and behavior!
We provided our first scholarship in May of 2023! You can read stories from some of our recipients’ families here.
